Mitt Romney’s run for president is the “last hurrah” of the white race in this country. Many whites will be voting for him for this reason, so perhaps they will have a four- or eight-year hurrah. Many whites don’t recognize the USA anymore; minority persons, including women, seem to be running everything. This is especially true for older whites. Even the younger whites, who were Obama supporters in the last election and who now support the Occupy movements, feel sure the Republicans will not help them realize the “American Dream,” as they begin to doubt whether Obama will deliver it to them. They are beginning to doubt whether they should continue to throw in their lot with those who vote Democratic because they see the Democratic Party as the source of assistance that they need and have even come to rely on.
The older whites yearn for qualification tests for voters, perhaps not as Draconic as the Republicans are supporting in some states, but something like the original requirement that a voter had to be a property or land owner. They certainly wish the voters they think the Democrats drag to the polls had some idea who their local and federal representatives were, what the three branches of the US government are and what country the Declaration of Independence was aimed at.
As a member of the shrinking white race should I follow the allure of the “last hurrah”? How bad can he be? Based on past actions he’ll probably come over to support all the global warming, improving education etc. causes I am for…
Once again we need to be reminded of this (click here)
When I recently visited the Los Angeles Natural History Museum Dinosaur Exhibit I saw an animation of the movement over time of what now are the continents. This is such an animation. WATCH IT IN FULLSCREEN
What I thought I remembered hearing about this was all wrong. I remembered that Eisenhower commanded troops that fired on veterans who were marching on Washington, killing several of them. Actually it was MacArthur who commanded the troops with Patton commanding the six tanks they sent in. Eisenhower was a lower level officer on MacArthur’s staff who advised him not to go there. Two veterans only were shot, and they were shot by police prompting President Hoover to order the troops to clear the veterans out. The gas they used to help disperse them was nasty stuff. At least one veteran may have died from exposure to it.
What led me to recall the misinformation I remembered hearing about this march was comparing it to what Mubarak did in Egypt. My thought was that any government when confronted by a large, unruly demonstration will first do what is deemed necessary to keep order – even the United States did.
I don’t know exactly what Mubarak ordered against the demonstrations in Trahir Square. I guess his trial, now going on, will bring that out, but my gut feeling is they should leave the guy – once their revered leader – to live out the rest of his days in peace.
Oh, and here’s some newsreel stuff on the 1932 march:
Jon beats all the talking heads:
Without a powerful and increasingly hated monied upper class (mostly Jewish) and a downtrodden petty bourgeoisie (workers) as described here Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party would never have gained the power they got from otherwise good, God-fearing Germans. How much of a reach is it to compare what happened then with our current situation of an increasingly frustrated and angry middle class overlaid with Tea Party types, rich who are getting richer and a Donald Trump who will say anything (today he’s honored???) to get the crowd’s attention and possible approval?
I have some end-of-the-month problems, namely which direction and when do I turn the knob on my watch to advance the date of the month without affecting anything else and do I continue with T-Mobile and if so which monthly plan should I pick.
Isn’t it wonderful most people don’t have such momentous decisions to make this time of year? Take Obama for example, poor man only has to decide whether to kiss Boner’s ass on his energy plan or McCain’s ass on arming the rebels in Libya.
Whoops! Further research indicates there are 31 days in March, so I don’t have to advance the date of the month on my watch until April; however T-Mobile’s prepaid plans are only good for 30 days so I continue to have a problem there.
